The yellow-crested cockatoo is a striking medium-sized parrot native to Indonesia and East Timor, instantly recognisable by its snow-white plumage and vivid yellow crest that fans open when the bird is excited or alarmed. Highly intelligent and social, these birds form strong bonds — both with their flockmates in the wild and with humans in captivity, which unfortunately made them a prime target of the illegal pet trade.
